css - Storefront header and footer -

i stuck. have placed image header of storefront theme. after experimenting got image align contents of header. have made 1280 px wide. want footer 1280px wide aligned vertically in header. css have tried is

.site-footer { width: 1280px; float: centre; } 

this produces footer, left adjusted :(

i know stupid missing here?
