Override Apache Environment Variables -

i'm wondering if it's possible override apache environment variable another? background i'm using load balancer, has ssl, , checking https environment variable doesn't work, instead need check http_x_forwarded_proto. handle in code, i'm wondering if there way set https environment variable value of http_x_forwarded_proto @ apache level.
